Score Media acquires SportTap to create US' third largest sports app
Score Media (TSE:SCR) said Thursday it has acquired SportsTap, its rival free mobile sports application, for an undisclosed amount.
Combined with Score Media's existing sports app, ScoreMobile, the Toronto-based company will become the third largest smartphone sports app in the US in terms of audience volume, it said in a statement, behind the ESPN app and the Yahoo! sports app.
"ScoreMobile's acquisition of SportsTap brings together two innovative and popular services and positions us well to deliver even more exciting experiences for sports fans and creative solutions for our advertising partners," said executive vice-president and COO, Benjie Levy.
"This deal further cements our position as a mobile sports leader among the world's premier sports brands."
SportsTap, which launched in 2007, is compatible with both iPhone and Andriod technologies.
While the financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, Score Media said that it plans to run SportsTap as a stand-alone business.
