Rolls-Royce lands new $120 million contracts for major pipeline project in China
Turbine and power system manufacturer Rolls Royce plc (LSE: RR) said today it has further expanded its participation in the West to East Gas Pipeline Project (WEPP) in China by securing two major power system installation deals.
State-owned oil company PetroChina, which owns and operates the 2,500 mile pipeline through a subsidiary, placed orders for three RB211-powered gas compressor packages and a single motor driven compressor for Line 1 and six RB211 compressor packages for the western section of Line 2.
The total value of the orders exceeds US$120 million.
Rolls-Royce sees the new deals as an opportunity to expand its footing in one of the world's key energy markets.
"We are very pleased to once again be selected by PetroChina to provide Rolls-Royce power and compression equipment for their growing pipeline network; these latest orders emphasize the increasing success of Rolls-Royce equipment and expertise in China, one of the world's most important energy markets," said VP for Oil & Gas of the Rolls-Royce energy business Tony Ruegger.
The new contracts bring the total number of gas turbine packages and motor-driven compressors ordered for the original WEPP line to 19 and 6 respectively. Rolls-Royce will also provide the gas compressors for all of the ordered equipment.
