Sinovac Biotech Ltd.

Sinovac Biotech Ltd. is a China-based biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the research, development, manufacture and commercialization of vaccines that protect against human infectious diseases. Sinovac's vaccine products include Healive® (hepatitis A), Bilive® (combined hepatitis A and B), and Anflu® (influenza). Panflu(TM), Sinovac's pandemic influenza vaccine (H5N1), has already been approved for government stockpiling. Sinovac is developing vaccines for enterovirus 71, universal pandemic influenza, Japanese encephalitis vaccine, and human rabies vaccine. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Tangshan Yian, is conducting field trials for independently developed inactivated animal rabies vaccines.

Sinovac Biotech receives government order for 3.3m doses of Swine Flu vaccine

The Chinese Ministry of Industry placed an order for 3.3 million doses of H1N1 vaccine from SinoVac Biotech Ltd. (NYSE: SVA). The New York Listed pharmaceutical company is based in the People's Republic of China.

The Chinese State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA), granted SinoVac's production license for ‘PanFlu' yesterday, September 3, 2009.

SinoVac began producing their PanFlu branded H1N1 flu vaccine in June 2009. In August the results of the clinical trail announced that the vaccine showed good safety and immunogenicity profiles after one shot of vaccine.

The order from the Ministry of Industry forms part of the Chinese stockpiling strategy to protect against the ‘swineflu' pandemic, SinoVac is required to complete the production of 3.3 million doses before September 15th 2009.

SinoVac's CEO, Mr. Weidong Yin, stated that "SinoVac is very glad to be supplying our H1N1 vaccine to the Chinese government and we are confident that we can complete the national H1N1 vaccine stockpiling task in a timely manner."

SinoVac (NYSE:SVA) leapt 10% yesterday on the approval of the SFDA production license, and has eased slightly since opening above $9.60.
