Sohu.com third quarter profit up 21pct

Sohu.com Inc. (Nasdaq:SOHU), yesterday reported revenue up 13 percent year-on-year and a net income increase of 21 percent year-on-year in its unaudited financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009.

However, the revenue figures exclude deductions relating to its non-controlling interest in Changyou.com (Nasdaq:CYOU), previously part of Sohu but listed separately in April this year. Without the revenue contribution from Changyou, Sohu's net income actually fell to US$37.4m, down 14.7 percent year-on-year, with core brand advertising revenues down 2 percent.

Total revenues, including Chanyou, for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009 were US$136.6m, representing a quarterly increase of 7 percent and and percent 13 year-on-year.

Brand advertising revenues for the quarter totaled US$48.5m, up 11 percent on the previous quarter but down 2 percent year-on-year. Online game revenues were US$68.7m, an increase of 3 percent quarterly and 26 percent year-on-year.

The company has a debt-free balance sheet and a strong cash position of US$596.4m as of September 30.
