Anhui Wenergy to build nuclear power station in central China
Electricity producer Anhui Wenergy Co (SZ:000543) surged to the 10 percent trading cap after announcing it will form a joint venture to build a nuclear power station in central China.
The company will take a 49 percent stake in the joint venture with China National Nuclear Corp to build the power station in Anhui province, according to a statement to the stock exchange today. Total investment in the project is set to exceed RMB50bn.
Both parties have agreed to start the Anhui Jiyang Nuclear Energy Co Ltd, and are about to carry out a feasibility study that will decide on the exact location of the plant.
China currently has six nuclear plants with a capacity of nine million kilowatts (kw), accounting for two percent of the nation’s total installed power capacity. The proportion of total global electricity output accounted for by nuclear was 14.19 percent in 2007.
The country’s installed nuclear power capacity will reach 40 million kw by 2020 and make up four percent of total power supply, according to the country’s current nuclear development plan.
